Not all airport transfer companies operating in the French Alps from Geneva Airport are legally authorised.
If you’re booking a ski transfer to Megève, Chamonix or St Gervais, here’s why it matters.
🇫🇷 What Is a VTC Licence? The red license in the vehicle window
In France, professional private hire drivers must hold:
-
A French VTC (Voiture de Transport avec Chauffeur) licence
-
Commercial insurance
-
Registered vehicles
-
Professional driver certification on display in the vehicle window
Without this, they are not legally allowed to operate private airport transfers.
⚠️ Why This Matters to You
If you book with an unlicensed operator:
-
Insurance may be invalid in an accident
-
Vehicles may not meet safety standards
-
Drivers may not be authorised to carry passengers commercially
This is particularly important during winter mountain driving conditions.
LOTI vs VTC – What’s the Difference?
Some companies operate under LOTI licences, which have restrictions- one of which bizarely is the ability t only be able to carry two + passengers! If you are travelling alone it must be VTC
LOTI is the purple license in the vehicle window
ResortRides.com is licensed with both VTC and LOTI
If you’re unsure — ask the company directly.
